Check the color of the old antifreeze. It is probably red. This would be Hybrid Organic Acid Technology and should not be mixed with other types. 2000- 2001 is around the time that Plymouth changed to this type of coolant so its important to check for the red color.

Alternator may not be working to keep battery charged properly. Check with a voltmeter Reading should be (with a fully charged battery) around 12.8 volts without vehicle running With vehicle running reading should be 13.8-14.2 volts Ford Focus 2001 - My experience with battery light coming on is the following: Put a volt meter on the battery if you get about 12.7 volts DC (Car Cold) or about 14.5 volts DC with the car running, your alternator should be fine. What you want too check is the fuse. In the fuse panel under the hood is a 10 amp fuse (red color) in position 10 (check your manual), if it is blown, that means your voltage monitor/regulator diagnostic module is suggesting it is not functioning. Replace the fuse should help. This also solved some stalling I had with the car, although I'm not sure why.
Sounds like the alternator may not be recharging the battery properly Use a voltmeter to check A fully charged battery shoukld read approx. 12.8 without engine running Should read 13.8-14.2 with engine running with a good alternator Ford Focus 2001 - My experience with battery light coming on is the following: Put a volt meter on the battery if you get about 12.7 volts DC (Car Cold) or about 14.5 volts DC with the car running, your alternator should be fine. To jump a battery is exactly the same as you would jump start any other cars in the world. 1. Connect the jumper cable positive clamp (Red color) to the positive post of the dead battery. 2. Connect the jumper cable negative clamp (Black color) to the negative post of the dead battery. 3. Connect the other jumper cable positive clamp (Red color) to the positive post of a good battery. 4. Connect the other jumper cable negative clamp (Black color) to the negative post of a good battery. 5. Start your Mercedes. 6. Reverse the 1-4 steps when the car starts successfully. Note: Step 3, and 4 could be a good strong battery, or a battery on a running car. weijen_hsu@yahoo.com
