Timing is when the car fires the spark plug to ignite the fuel to create a burn. This has to be an exact science for the engine to operate properly. To early, and the fuel and air does not have enough time to compress, and this will cause engine knock. To late, you lose the compression. Either way, the fuel is not burning properly, and you fuel mileage can suffer, or even cause damage to the engine.

This car uses a timing chain, there is no set time interval to replace a timing chain, they last the life of the car in most cases. My opinion "It has a timing chain and it needs to be changed and should be replaced every 150,000 to 174,000 miles most 90,000 to 110,00 minimum." I can give you valuable info from the manual in exchange for your help.
If your car has the 2.8V6 it has a timing chain. If your car has the 2.54 cylinder engine it has timing gears. Neither has a timing belt or the problems that come with one.
