If you are interested in outdoor activites, go skiing, Snowboarding, or hiking at any of the ski resorts. The most popular are Brighton and Snowbird. You could also visit some of the Olympic parks - try your skills at ski jumping or bobsledding! There is also a great place to try parasailing and hangliding at Point of the Mountain.
If you like sports, you could catch a Jazz Basketball game at Energy Solutions Arena, a Real Salt Lake soccer game at Rio Tinto Stadium, a Bee's Baseball game at Franklin Covey Field, or a University of Utah football game.
If you like history there are several museums and tours you could go on. This is the Place Heritage Park is a pioneer renactment villiage and is a great place for kids. The Hansen Planetarium and the Hoagle Zoo are also fun for kids. There is also a downtown Salt Lake historic walking tour, or you could take a free guided tour of Temple Square (this is the most popular tourist destination in the city). Many of Salt Lake's historic homes, businesses, and religious buildings have tours as well, try the governors mansion, the Cathedral of the Madeline, the Utah State Capitol, and others. The Daughters of Utah Pioneer Museum has the largest collection of pioneer artifacts in the world, and admission is free (although a donation is requested). There is also the Utah Museum of Natural History, Utah Museum of Fine Art, Living Planet Aquarium, Discovery Gateway Children's Museum, and and the Museum of Ancient Life - all are great for families.
If you like concerts and theatre, you could go to a Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehersal or broadcast, as well as other concerts on Temple Square, free of charge. There is also the Utah Opera, Utah Symphony, Utah Ballet, and several theatres showing plays around the city.
There are plenty of places to shop and eat. The most popular shopping areas downtown are Gateway Mall and City Creek Center. You might also want to enjoy a local brewery, nightclub, or comedy show as well.
