Zero. The zygote is the first cell formed by the fertilization of an egg by a sperm cell. It doesn't divide during it's formation, but it does divide afterwards.

What form of cell division halves the number of chromosomes?

Meiosis. Takes place during gametogenesis, the formation of sperm or ova. The final sperm or ova formed will each contain 23 chromosomes, haploid number.

What is the process of cell division that results in the formation of cells with half the usual number of chromosomes?

The process of meiosis.

The normal species chromosome number is called the what number?

During cell division the parent cell splits to form what 2 cells

Do plant and animal cells go through mitosis?

The cell plate does not begin to form until the later stages of mitosis, so yes, a plant cell forms a cell plate (assuming cytokinesis occurs, examples of exceptional cases are described below). In fact, cell plate formation is unique to plants amongst eukaryotes as animal and fungal cells lack cellulose based cell walls and instead form what are called cleavage furrows prior cytokinesis. Mitosis in strict sense is the nuclear division having same number of chromosomes in daughter nuclei. The telophase may or may not be followed by cytokinesis (the division of cytoplasm). The cell plate formation takes place during cytokinesis in plants in general but there are specific circumstances where mitotic nuclear division is not followed by cytokinesis as in the case of formation of free nuclear endosperm during embryogenesis in a number of angiospermic plants.

How are sex cells different from other cells?

They have haploid number of chromosomes. They undergo meiosis cell division during their formation.it is the type of cell division in which the chromosome number of the parent is reduced cells to half in the daughter cells.
