The annexation of the Republic of Texas took place in 1845. The Republic of Texas annexed was smaller than the Texas we know today, because Mexico was still disputing the border by saying that the border itself was on the Brazos river when i should have been on the Rio Grande River. The annexation led to the Mexican American War (1846-1848).
