Uncle Remus was a fictional character, Black in nature, created by Joel Chandler Harris, in Atlanta, shortly after the Civil War. The various stories and tales of Uncle Remus were later meshed into a motion picture- one of the earliest that mixed Cartoons and live action- called the Song Of the South. There are some similarities between Harris" southern accented animal characters and Howard R. Garis" Uncle Wiggily, some may even be shared characters like the weird-animal Pippsiewah, who, naturally lives in the swamp. The movie version of Song of the South was made by Disney and is occasionally re-released.
