It's used for many reasons. Primary from my experience, when a barber gives a haircut and does the final trim with clippers or particularly razor, the shaving aspects will open pours around the area of shaving. Using the talc dry power will fill the freshly shaved area. This will usually take any sting away as well. The customer goes away feeling great.
Use cornstarch, powder foundation, baking soda (makes hair a bit dry though ), plain flour (fave^_^). Do not use baby powder. Baby powder is made of Talc that can cause cancer and asthma. If the baby powder is talc free then you should definetly use it.
Talc powder serves as a glidant
they do not dry properly after bathing talc helps to prevent sores from damp skin

If you want to stay dry which is usually the reason to use talc powder, try using common baking powder. Kaolin clay is used in making porcelin and as far as is known, there are no extraordinary benefits to using this rather expensive clay. The biggest problem with talc is that it can produce adverse health problem in women who use it to cover odor problems in the private areas. Talc is a rock so the problems become evident when you think about it. Baking powder can be scented naturally if you do not like the smell or one can use perfumes on top of the powder. Read the ingredient list of commercial products because most "talcum powders" today no longer have talc in them.
I think the different its coming from particle size of powder, compacted powder is more finer than micronized and use for tablet and capsule dosage, micronized have a large particle size and use for dry suspension.
Probably Talc... It's what they use in paint and maybe baby powder because of how easy it is to grind up.

That would depend on what powder it is. Flea powder is fine and a good idea. Keep in mind that dogs do have the tendency to lick themselves, and if the powder is toxic it may end up poisoning them.
you could use baking powder but its best to use dry active yeast
to dry out your hands so that when grabbing on to something they don't slip. same with placing it on your feet, when sweaty they slip easily.
