Freshwater - Litoral zones are the edges Limnetic zones are the middle section as deep as light can reach
Prefundal zone is the deep middle where no light can reach.
*not all lakes have prefundal zones, some are too shallow*






Marine - Epipelagic - [receives light]
Mesopelagic - [receives light]
Bathypelagic - [the top of which receives light, the bottom does not]
Abyssopelagic - [no light]
Hadalpelagic - [no light]

Light is absorbed vertically by both the water itself and the microorganisms in it, so that its intesity decreases rapidly with depth.
