pearl harbor
deep enough for ships to sink and go all the way under
This is deep water so ships can sail through. Becouse ships need deep water to sail through places
It wasn't just Liverpool. London, Manchester, Glasgow, Leith, Cardiff, Bristol, Newcastle etc all suffered. The change came about with containerisation. Huge ships were built to accommodate thousands of containers and all of these ports weren't big enough or had water deep enough to accept these new larger ships. Felixstowe and Southampton are now the two main ports for large ships.
Rivers deep enough for their longboats to sail.
A waterway deep and wide enough for a vessel is called navigable.
