Check to see if the fuel filter is plugged up. It is located under the body of the car, either under the drivers or passengers door(passengers, I think). It is covered by a protective metal cover. The system will probably be charged when you take the filter off, so watch for spraying fuel. I forget if it takes a special tool to take the filter off. Check at your autoparts store. I last changed mine about 3 years ago. Probably need to do it again.
AnswerAnothercause..... is a cracked or leaking nylon type hose, ("about four inches long!") going from the "EGR"valve ("Exhaust-Gas recirculating valve") to the Exhaust system, all as to be found located at the very top rear of the engine, and almost impossible to actually physically view, without removing other polution control items to allow access to this short hose. ....."Mechanic."
