The cable is either broke or you may have a loose wire. The best way to handle this is to get a haynes manual from the parts store and read up on it.

I have a 95 pathfinder and had the same problem with fuel pump fuses blowing. It turned out to be that the fuel sending unit had to be replaced. . Try cleaning the six contacts on top of the sender unit make sure they are isolated
