What is wrong with a 93 Grand Am V4 that when shifted into 3rd gear does not accelerate up hills and makes a noise like a card in the spokes of a bike?

Hey John==I didn't know anyone had a V4. But the engine probably is spark knocking. Try a higher octane of gas. If it helps it, repair the egr valve and go to auto zone and have the codes read in your computer. Goodluck Joe
