I am a bible student therefore you might find my answer somewhat different than the political theorists.In the book of Daniel, chapter 8 and 11 we discover that Iran (Persia) and Iraq (Media) rise to power and become vey wealthy. They use that wealth to turn all the other nations of the world against Grecia (Yavan). Yavan is defined as the hot and active (volcanic), therefore its thought that this Grecia (Yavan) is what we refer to as the State of Israel. In order for Persia and Media (Iran and Iraq) to rise to the wealth spoken of in Daniel, they would need to gain control over the Middle East oil business. The sedition taking place in the Middle East at this time is obviously a precursor to that power exchange occurring.The interesting part of this scenario is that it requires the USA to be absent from the Middle East. Currently the USA has an entire fleet stationed in Bahrain, protecting US financial interests in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Mr Obama has not shown himself willing to completely remove American military assets from the region. Romney does not seem to stand behind the notion of moving US troops out of the Middle East either. This is the catch 22 concerning Mr Obama and Mr Romney and their possibility for being president in 2013. Neither meet the requirements of the prophecy. However, there is one presidential candidate who is has stated emphatically that he would withdraw from the Middle East as well as other stations around the globe. That candidate is Ron Paul.This could translate into a few possible scenarios:1) A continuation of the Obama/Biden administration for the next 4 years2) The choosing by Romney of Ron Paul as his Vice Presidential candidate, most will not expect this to occur, however its doubtful that Mr Romney can win with any other candidate as VP. This scenario either provides for Ron Paul to be President in the stead of Romney or it provides American citizen support for Ron Paul due to his actions as VP and he wins the presidency in 2014, difficult ascertain.3) Mr Ron Paul is convenced by the people to run as an independent, a third leg in the race for the White house in 2012. He meets all the requirements of the prophecy and where he alone can not swing 50+% of the electoral college, he could realistically obtain the 35+% necessary to win in 2012.Remember there will be vast sums of people who have opinions one way or another concerning this question. So John was writing of thing after that date. That generation shall not pass from the Earth. A generation is not 40 years. A generation did not start until that father was 21 years old. Now add the 40 years and you get 61 years of generations. 1948 plus 61 is 2009. Makes more since now, doesn't it? And that generation has not passed away. "...as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the end of days". Noah tried his best to tell the world that the end was coming, but they would not believe. When the waters came and took the boat away, no one was saved except those that were in the boat. Jesus is the life waters and he carried Noah away. He will come back and carry his church away, before the great tribulation. And again, no one will be saved after that point. He said "blessed are those that have not seen and still believe".I firmly believe that the rapture will take place after the two prophets are resurrected.
