A better explanation:
Women filled many jobs brought into existence by wartime needs. As a result the number of women employed increased from 3,224,600 in July, 1914 to 4,814,600 in January 1918. Nearly 200,000 women were employed in government departments. Half a million became clerical workers in private offices. Women worked as conductors on trams and buses. A quarter of a million worked on the land. The greatest increase of women workers was in engineering. Over 700,000 of these women worked in the highly dangerous munitions industry. Industries that had previously excluded women now welcomed them. There was a particular demand for women to do heavy work such as unloading coal, stoking furnaces and building ships.
the jobs were they had to be nurses or doctors to help the wound and a nother job is that they had to cook for the hungry
During world war 2, there were about 25 % to 30 % of women who worked outside the house at paying jobs. More married women, more mothers, and more minority women found jobs than had before the war.
Often women took on the jobs that men who had gone to fight in the armed forces had such as steelwork etc.
the men werent there at the time
During WWII women found atypical manufacturing jobs that were left vacant by men who left to fight. These jobs were welding, assembling, and riveting to name a few. This is where the phrase "Rosie the Riveter" came from. The tragedy is that when the men returned from war, the women were fired from the jobs they performed while the men were away.
They took the place of the men who went to fight the war.
Women during the civil war could not have any jobs unless they were slaves and/or being in the house taking care of their children.
Women and black men did many jobs during the war that had previously been done only by white men. After the war, some were able to keep their new jobs, and many were not.

During the 1940's, men were drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. Women took those men's jobs, working as mechanics, doctors, and other jobs that were more reserved for men before the war.

because pretty much all the men that were able joined the war causeing the women to take over there jobs and that is why many women have jobs today
They were expected to take over men's jobs.
