In the simplest terms: The general American public did not feel it was our war. Many Americans knew next to nothing about Europe. It was not the age of TV, books, internet where we know about most of the world and a large population did not even have an education beyond 6th grade. Many people could not read or write then either. Politicians in Washington D.C. did not feel exactly the same way as the general American public because they knew more about the situation but still did not want to send our military people over there to die. We also did not have a very large army at the time. The first group of military personnel who went over there did not have combat experience and there were only a small amount of them. It is not like we initially sent over thousands of military people. The cost of a war was another factor. The politicians really did not want to spend the money on a war that was not ours.
neutrality
Greenbacks <3 :-)
America Joined the WW1 conflict in 1917, 3 years after the war started. The threat of unrestricted U Boat activity, American business interests with Britain and France , and German dictatorship were factors. Also Germany offered to take up arms with Mexico against America.
first of all the U.S didn't join anyone the allies powers joined them.
1. Unrestricted German submarine warfare sank American ships even though the US was neutral. 2. Zimmerman Telegram which showed that Germany was encouraging Mexico to attack the US angered many Americans. 3. German submarines sank the RMS Lusitania, a British ocean liner that was carrying US passengers.

maybe, but almost certainly not for a minimum of 2 to 3 years. the US populace was strongly isolationist from the end of WW1 until we were attacked and realized the oceans could no longer protect us.
Louis Riel was in the US for 3 years
