Most systems use the F8 key, while booting up, to start in Safe Mode. Immediately after power up, keep hitting the F8 key about once per second, until you come up in Safe Mode.

You will need to do a system restore. Restart your computer in safe mode (reboot and press the F8 key continuously until you get the option to start in safe mode). When in safe mode, use system restore to restore your system to just before you installed that Service Pack.
Try to start last working version... If you laptop (netbook) is having problems to start in Safe Mode there is not much you can do... One of things you can do is to load the system in command line mode and see where it stops. And go from there...

Windows 2000, XP, and Vista do not have a "DOS mode." To start Windows 95 and 98 in MS-DOS mode, press F8 when the splash screen appears. Then select "Start computer in MS-DOS mode" from the list.
First start computer and go to run then type CDM, you will go toin DOS mode and type VER press enter. got you version of your operating system.
To set the time, depress the MODE button until the TIME option appears. Then press the SET button, followed by MODE again. Then, press the START/STOP button to set the correct hour. Press MODE again and use START/STOP again to set the minutes.
