Worms eat organic matter in soils, or organic matter you mix into soil like compost. Once the worm eats the organic matter it is cast off from their body in the form of rich black waste that looks like dirt. It is the best fertilizer you can use to grow your own food plants, herbs, fruits, etc. They can not eat citrus peels, like Oranges and lemons or bananas as they tend to mold before the worms eat it and then only as a last resort. The oils in the peel are too strong and irritate the worm's digestive tract.
