this is due to the lenses in between the headlights, which cause the beam pattern to loose brightness and go yellow i.e. dim, even if you replace the bulbs the lenses will need replacing as this is an MOT failure. Once you have replaced either the lenses or the whole headlight unit, i would suggest getting builbs that are UV protected. (These are not standard bulbs from ford) then they shouldn't burn out the lenses causing the yellowness or dimness. I had the same problem and changing the headlights and bulbs seemed to do the trick.
