Best Answer

capacitors cannot store AC. neither can inductors.

Answer

With the exception of polarised (electrolytic) capacitors, most capacitors can be used with a.c. systems -providing their voltage rating (which is often expressed as a d.c. voltage) exceeds the peak value, rather than the r.m.s. value, of the a.c. supply.

Capacitors are not used for storing electrical charge in a.c. systems, but are widely-used for power-factor improvement, single-phase induction motor starting, etc.

Advantages of bank capacitor?

Capacitor banks can improve the power factor if the load is leading, which is unusual. Typically in substations capacitor banks are employed to reduce over voltage.

What effect does the series resistance of a capacitor used in a capacitor filter have on diode current and ripple voltage compared with an ideal capacitor of no resistance?

The effective resistance of the capacitor reduces the ripple current through the capacitor making it less effective in its function of smoothing the voltage. But if the capacitor filter is fed by a transformer and diodes, the resistance of the transformer exceeds that of the capacitor.

Which diode used for voltage controlled capacitor?

Varactor didoe is used as voltage controlled capacitor.it is generally used in reverse bias condition.

Why capacitor bank using reeactor?

Series reactors may be used in switching in capacitor banks. These are used to minimize the transient voltage spikes on the system resulting from switching in a capacitor bank.

Application of capacitor?

A capacitor in its simplest form is merely two electrically conductive plates separated by an insulator from each other. As such the capacitor will block any DC voltage from passing through it, up to the electrical dielectric strength of the insulator. The capacitor will accept a DC charge and an electrical field will exist between the plates of the capacitor. The capacitor will retain this charge until it either leaks away via the high electrical resistance of the insulator, or is intentionally discharged. When an AC or varying voltage is applied to a capacitor, a varying electrical field is set up between the plates of the capacitor. This will thus pass through the capacitor, and can be seen on the opposite plate. Thus, a capacitor will pass an AC voltage. Now,as to the question, " application of Capacitor". One of the oldest and most useful of capacitor applications is filtering or smoothing the output of an AC to DC power supply. In this supply, an AC voltage is rectified by a diode into a varying DC voltage. A capacitor is placed across the output, and serves to supply voltage or "fill in" the output whenever the output voltage is less than the capacitor. The capacitor subsequently recharges on the next cycle and repeats the process. Thus, the output voltage of the power supply is smoothed out.

Is a diode used as capacitor?

Both a capacitor and battery "store charge". However, in a battery there is a chemical reaction that continues to generate charge. You apply a charge across the "plates" of a capacitor and it will decay over time from leakage or through a discharge resistance to ground in the circuit. You need really large capacitors to store meaningful amounts of charge, to take the place of a battery for example.

What is capacitor function?

The capacitor is used to store the charge applied to it.This stored charge can be used to absorb voltage spikes and voltage drops.AnswerIt's a misconception that a capacitor stores charge. In fact, it stores energy. The net charge on a fully-charged capacitor is the same as on a fully discharged capacitor.

Why bypass capacitor is used in common emitter ampifier circuit?

If a bypass capacitor is used the voltage drop across emitter resistance is reduced which in turn increases the gain.....

How many current drawn in 400 kvar capacitor bank?

It depends upon at how much voltage level 400 kvar capacitor bank is used.

What does the voltage rating of a capacitor mean?

The voltage rating of a capacitor is the maximum amount of voltage that a capacitor can hold. Going above this rating can damage and destroy the capacitor.AnswerExceeding a capacitor's voltage rating can cause its dielectric to break down. A capacitor's voltage rating is generally expressed as a d.c. voltage so, if it is to be used with an a.c. system, it's necessary to know the peak value of the a.c. voltage, which is determined by dividing the a.c. (rms) voltage by 0.707.

What diode is used as voltage controlled capacitor?

It is called a varactor or a varicap diode. Its capacitance varies nonlinearly with the reverse voltage applied to its terminals.
