Well, my '96 has a sticker under the hood telling me to use a specific type. I can't recall what it is right now, but not long ago, I dropped into a radiator shop to ask if I really needed the wierd sounding factory installed stuff. The folks there told me that a rule of thumb is to use a coolant that is the same color as what's in it now. They also said that in a car that old, I could go ahead and use whatever kind I pleased. I bought some inexpensive 50/50 premixed (with water) and topped it off. I've had no problems. You might, however, want to do what I did. Get the opinion of an expert at a local radiator shop. whaT KIND OF COOLANT DO I PUT IN MY 2001 PONTIAC SUNFIRE Generally, the GM model vehicles, or is this case, the sunfire, use a specific kind of coolant called DEX-cool extended life engine coolant. It is orange-ish in color and most of the time GM specific. i have a 01 sunfire, 2.2 liter myself, and on my car frame, i have a sticker that says "Use only DEX-cool engine coolant....". Hope this helps!

If you have one, it's back near the firewall, just down from the brake master cylinder. You might not have one though. Pontiac did away with them early in the game. Why, I don't know. Seems kind of dumb to me ~
