Depends on if it's an interference or a non-interference engine.
In an interference engine, the range of motion of the valves overlap with the range of motion of the pistons.
If the timing belt breaks, these parts will no longer move in synch with each other, and the pistons can smash into the valves, seriously damaging both set of components.
In a non-interference engine the valves will always clear the pistons, and the engine will simply not run, w/o any further damage,.
Valves can and will bend.Valves can and will bend.
Valves may well hit the pistons if the valve timing is incorrectly set
I do not believe they do. An overtightened timing belt will just be noisy. Kind of like a squeeky belt.
worst case bent or broke valves, scared cylinder walls, chipped cracked or broken piston surfaces in other words very costly best case nothing
Yes, these engines are interference engines. The valves may hit the pistons when belt breaks/jumps time. Don't put off changing timing belts on these kind of engines.
Gates is an excellent belt.
If the water pump is bad, it will leak and your car will overheat. If the Power steering pump is broken the steering will be very hard and if the timing belt malfunctions, your car will stop running.
A timing chain, that needs to be replaced, can cause your engine to run rough and lose power. A broken timing chain can cause significant engine damage.
transmition with chain.
The accessory drive belt and the timing belt.
I'm pretty sure the 05 Frontier has a timing chain.
not at all, but if the timing belt is even kind of due you can save money by getting it done now
