Community colleges have a two year Associates of Applied Science degree in Accounting. However, this type of degree usually does not transfer very well to a four year institution should you want to continue on for a Bachelor's degree later. That is unless the community college has a special articulation with a four year institution. The degree provides the basic skills needed for some entry level positions. The recommendation is to pursue a Bachelors in Business with a Major in Accounting. You can still start with the community college first and take their transfer Business degree. After completing the degree you can then transfer to a four year college or university. It would save you some money on tuition. Check with the Transfer Counselor at your home county community college and ask what articulations the school has with other four year institutions particular to the Accounting major. Still, if you want to you can apply directly to the four year institution and apply for their Accounting degree. You will have to research their admissions requirements by going to their web site. For more information on schools within your area, you can go to www.CollegeBoard.com, go to College Matchmaker and search by major, school, and geographical area. Viper1
