What type of depression it is depends on the length of time the behaviour has been going on and the severity of the characteristics. Not eating is a result of not having any appetite simply because your disinterest in everything is including disinterest in food. Some people who are depressed eat too much, but not because they're hungry, but just because it's there. Getting medical treatment can help with this, such as antidepressants. It is important to remember that your body requires food to run. It's important to eat regular balanced meals. From things I've studied on depression, sometimes you just have to make yourself eat because it's necessary to survive. It's also a good plan to forget about any weight loss plans while your in the middle of a depression because it really puts too much pressure. I lost 40 pounds in six weeks by being depressed and having no appetite, but that's definitely not the right way to lose weight. Blood tests revealed my body was low on every mineral substance in the blood that comes from food, including iron, calcium and anything your body needs to run. That alone can sap energy out of you compounded on top of disinterest in life and lack of motivation due to depression. In short if you or someone you love hasn't been able to eat and doesn't want to go out for two weeks straight, it's time to talk to a doctor. Leaving depression untreated usually makes it worse, so do something about it now. It's important to remember that depression of any type is a brain chemical imbalance that can be treated just like appendicitis or a broken leg. Depression is not a sign of weakness. Both Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill suffered from depression, I'm sure no one would call either one of them weak.
