Do not use gravel in a turtle tank. They will eat it and it can cause serious problemlems - even death. If you do want to use gravel it must be very large gravel so that they cannot eat it but you may also just have a bare bottom - it is easier to clean also.

First if you have not already got a tank, go to a pet store and ask for the right size tank for your turtle. Also while you are there get at least 2 or more bags of gravel. Plus get some sand too. fill the bottom of the tank with the gravel and put a large hill goring up with the sand so your turtle can have land. put some small logs and drift wood into the tank so your turtle can hide. also put some aquatic plants in to so if you forget to feed it he/she can eat the plants. plus get a filter. then put your turtle in and he/she can enjoy the tank.

Well to keep your turtle tank clean i suggest putting the turtle in a separate bowl. Then scrubbing the edges of the tank will rid algae or other unpleasant rots. If you have gravel or pebbles on the bottom of the tank either replace them or run them through hot water for a few minutes. If you have sharp or jagged rocks or gravel at the bottom of your tank could be rubbing out on turtle's legs. I suggest that you put some smoother gravel in or just take out the gravel or rocks!

If you do not have a filter, you will have to clean out the tank at LEAST every other week.
