Actually any 20W50 motor oil that's rated SH or SJ will work fine as long as it's changed regularly, but Harley recommends using their own brand, Syn3. I recommend using Mobil One 15W50.
Drain the oil while the motor's still hot to catch any suspended particles before they settle and always replace the oil filter when changing oil.
No it won't
HD makes a weight of oil they call "Sport-Trans" that is made for use in the Sportster primary. Or, you can use any 30W non-detergent oil.
just behind the starter motor on a 1994 harley Davidson sportster is what looks like some sort of oil-outlet hose does anyone know where this hose is connected to
Factory manual recommends HD Multigrade 20W50 for Above 40 Degrees F .. I use Amsoil 20W50 on my 04 Sportster which now has 27,000 trouble free miles on it.
Out of gas?
You fill the primary/transmission oil supply with one quart of HD Sport/Trans through either the derby cover or the chain tension test cover.
Your 1976 sportster holds one quart of fluid. I use HD Sportlube or HD PRI ANDTRANS LUBE, but in the olden days I used a 20 wt non detergent motor oil. This fluid lubes the clutches and transmission gears and primary chain.
