Active partition is a term Windows uses to mean the partition Windows will boot off of. The Windows boot loader goes to its configuration file and starts, these files will be in the active partition.
Format and reinstall Windows XP Service Pack 3. Use Easeus Partition Master to format the partition where XP is installed, and afterwards create a new partition, name it and install Windows XP. If you don't know how to work with partitions, ask for help to an expert. After you have created a new partition to install the Windows XP SP3, use CCleaner to wipe entirely the free space in the HDD. It will take some hours but it Worth the job. Then, install again all the programs you are used to work with, including of course, Minecraft. Another providence is to run the system restoration instead reinstall the OS.
There are many ways to sort out your problem...but the best way i believe to completely format the hard drive...and reinstall a new OS on a newly created partition...it takes longer but at least you know that you are starting completely new...
