1. Full Face Helmet (fire resistant) 2. Nomex Fire Suit (coveralls) 3. Nomex Hood 4. Nomex Gloves 5. Driving shoes (fire resistant) 6. Nomex Underwear 7. Helmet Support (to keep the weight of your helmet from breaking your neck in a wreck) Thats about it, none of this stuff is cheap either for good quality.

Expect to pay about one thousand dollars for a good set of race gear.

well i have to wear a full flame retardant suit, a helmet that is snell rated, gloves and shoes with an sfi rating, a neckbrace or Hans device or an r3 restraint system, i also have to have yearly physicals to ensure im in good health to race. also i need my arm restraints and 5 point harness. and yes i am a real racecar driver

The safety requirements gradualy increase, with the speed of the car. NHRA, or the National Hot Rod Association, is the largest sanctioning body, in drag racing, followed by IHRA. They both have websites that will break it all down for you...

Nearly all parts of a driver's equipment is specialized for safety. The driver has to have special shoes with thicker soles and plastic protectors, to protect from heat. They have tough helmets that can withstand very hard impacts. Most racing series uses racing overalls that can withstand 1000o Celsius for 5 seconds.
