assuming you have a automatic its dextron 3 if standard its 80/90 gear oil
automatic trans fluid. Mercon works fine.
The manual transmission uses Mercon. i have 1998 s10 with 5 speed trans i was told to use syncromesh trans fluid
Dextron II .
Pull the transmission dipstick and read what it says on the stick, it will tell you what fluid it requires.
Automatic, the fluid can be added through the transmission dipstick tube. Standard, fluid has to be pumped in through a fill plug on the side of the trans.
if its a 4.3 its a 700r4
There is no dip stick just a plug to be removed about 5 inches up on the right side of the trans. If fluid runs out that opoening, it is full. On my 1999 S10 pickup the trans dipstick is located left and in front of the distributor cap (4.3L).
a 700r4 trans out of a s10 with a 4.3 will bolt up to a 305 but you will have to use flywheel cover for the s10 trans.
with a dipstick
Standard or automatic takes fluid.
If it is an automatic, read the dipstick. It is written on the dipstick. If it is a standard tranmission, mercon works.
there is no cable the trans is all electronic there will be a wiring harness to the trans but no cable.
