In the meaning that ignorance is bliss, yes- the citizens there know nothing about pain or suffering, as they have never seen it, so they are 'happy'. However, their lives are incomplete, because they are deprived of nearly all sensation, including color. So, in a way, they are not living to their fullest potential.

∙ 14y agoThe community is not a Utopian society in giver, because there are dark secrets hidden within the community. For example, if you disobey the rules you are told to be "released" and let go into a good place outside the community, however this is a lie. You are actual killed through lethal injection. Plus, a Utopian society is impossible and will never exist, because nothing can ever be perfect
