For starters, a true martini uses gin, not vodka.
Beyond that, it is up to the bartender or whoever as to what kind of vodka you use for a vodka martini. That said, plain vodka appears to be most common.

A classic martini is made with vodka or gin. Lets say we're using vodka. Grab a glass and fill it with ice, add 10ml of dry vermouth and swill it around the glass, as to cover all of the ice, then pour out the excess vermouth. Add 75ml of good vodka, like ketel one or grey goose, then stir with a spoon until the top of the liquid reaches the top of the ice. Then serve with three olives on a cocktail stick, or alternatively you can use a twist of lemon peel. My preferred martini however is a "dirty" martini. This is made with 75ml of your good vodka, 5ml of dry vermouth, 5-10ml of the brine from the olive jar, and chuck a couple of olives in there as well. Lightly shake it up and double strain through a sieve or tea strainer into you martini glass. Serve with three olives on a cocktail stick. Just replace vodka for gin if you a gin martini.
