Throughout the war, most u-boats had 4-6 forward torpedo tubes and 1 aft. Torpedoes were compressed gas or electric motor powered, and initially unguided. Later, it became common to see FaT or LuT pattern-running torps, which started a ladder course after missing their targets. WWII also saw the beginning of acoustic homing torpedoes, which were not very widespread or effective.
FlaK and deck guns were variable. Many u-boats had at least one small artillery piece for sinking unarmed ships not worth a torpedo. Light machine guns were usually placed on the back of the conning tower for shooting down planes when diving was not possible. These were replaced with far heavier guns by the end of the war. Deck guns were considered unnecessary, too.
The only unique subs worth noting were unarmed supply subs, and the super-advanced Type XXI Elektroboote, a subject all in itself.
A U-boat was a German underwater vessel (submarine) and had typically torpedoes, antiaircraft guns, mines, and deck guns on board. The Germans used them during World War II.

Vietnam was a type of guerrilla warfare, when a group of aggressive individuals on their home turf live "underground" and launch random attacks on invading forces. This type of warfare only works if it has the support of natives, so that is why terrorists have tried and failed to use this warfare on us on our turf.
