Also, the great variation between Northern and Southern Italy causes differences in the types of pizza they eat. In central Italy pizza rosso (red pizza, only sauce) and pizza bianco (basically bread) are the two basic types, while in other areas margherita (what Americans think of as plain) is the main type. Then there is also pizza with corn, pizza with sausage and pizza capri.
Of course there are also the different ways of buying pizza. If you fancy a sit down meal, then you can order an entire pie. As a quicker meal, you could order pizza by weight. This pizza is cut into squares and then eaten on the go.
