Enderby Land
Australia has the largest physical claim in Antarctica, with about 42% of the Antarctic being Australian territory.
Yes. It is known as Queen Maud land. According to Wikipedia: "The territory lies between 20° west and 45° east, between the British Antarctic Territory to the west and the Australian Antarctic Territory to the east. The latitudinal limits of the territory are not officially defined."
There are two separate Australian claims, covering more than 5.8MsqK. It consists of all the islands and territory south of 60° S and between 44°38°E and 160°E, except for French-claimed Adelie Land (136°11' E to 142°02' E). Adelie Land effectively divides the territory into Western Australian Antarctic Territory and Eastern Antarctic Territory. Australia's claims border Queen Maud Land (West), claimed by Norway and Ross Dependency (East), which is claimed by New Zealand. Note that the Antarctic Treaty, which governs the planet south of 60° S, states in its Article 4, that [The Antarctic Treaty] "does not recognize, dispute, or establish territorial sovereignty claims and no new claims shall be asserted while the treaty is in force."
From its Wikipedia entry:"Casey Station is a permanent base in Antarctica managed by the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). It lies on the northern side of the Bailey Peninsula overlooking Vincennes Bay on the Budd Coast of Wilkes Land in the Australian Antarctic Territory."
The NSW government ceded land for the new Australian Capital Territory to the Commonwealth Government, and the Australian Capital Territory was founded on 1 January 1911. However, until 1938, it was called the Federal Capital Territory. The Naval territory of Jervis Bay was ceded in 1915.The NSW government ceded land for the new Australian Capital Territory to the Commonwealth Government, and the Australian Capital Territory was founded on 1 January 1911. To the best of my knowledge, in the Wilkes Land there is only one Russian base, the famous Vostok Station.Wilkes Land is a vast antarctic district and, under the Antarctic Treaty, it is limited at the north by the South Indian Ocean, and at the south by......the geographic South Pole! So, the Vostok Station, at latitude 78ºS, is still considered to be situated in the Wilkes Land because of Vostok station's longitude (aprox. 106ºE).Australia had formally claimed Wilkes Land as part of the Australian Antarctic territory.
New South Wales surrounds the Australian Capital Territory. The NSW government ceded land for the new Australian Capital Territory to the Commonwealth Government, and the Australian Capital Territory was founded on 1 January 1911.

The Tropic of Capricorn circles the earth, crossing territory in South America, Africa, and Australia. All of the land area that the Antarctic Circle crosses is part of the Antarctic continent.
Zero. Nothing. Non-existent. Antarctica is a UN protectorate. The Australian claim covers roughly 5 896 500 sq km, or 2 276 651 sq miles. The Australian Antarctic Territory is made up of the islands and territory south of 60 degrees South and between 45 degrees East and 160 degrees east, excluding Adelie Land.Under the Antarctic Treaty, which governs the planet earth south of 60 degrees South Latitude, no country can "own" any part of the Antarctic continent. Along with 47 other countries, Australia is a signatory to the Antarctic Treaty, and it is permitted to use the land it claims for scientific purposes, as long as they remain within the terms of the Antarctic Treaty. In some cases, these territories are also shared with other nations who do not have claims. Australia, for example, shares it territory with Russia, which has several research stations in the Australian Antarctic Territory.Seven countries have officially claimed territory on Antarctica, and several of these countries formally recognise the other countries' claims, even though these claims are unofficial, under to the current terms of the Treaty.
Simply travel due south from anywhere on the Australian continent - you'll eventually land on Antarctica !
The smallest Australian state is Tasmania, with an area of 68401 square kilometres . The Australian Capital Territory is smaller, but it is a territory, not a state. Its area is 2358 square kilometres.
