The only language that Barack Obama speaks is English.
There is no "Egyptian" language any more; in ancient times, Egyptians had a language of their own, but these days, Egyptians tend to speak Arabic. The name "Barack" is a common Arabic and middle-eastern name, which means Blessed. The name Obama is an African family name, related to an ancestral group who live in Kenya; there is no evidence the word has any meaning in the Arabic language.
Well, Barack Obama got in due to his ability to speak clearly, persuasively, and vocally. Let's hope he can use his persuasive abilities to run the nation.
Since President Obama was born in Hawaii, his first language was and is English. His father was born in Kenya, but it was a British colony and by most accounts, Barack Senior mainly spoke English, as did his mother who was born in Kansas and was American.
I think you are referring to Luo, a tribal language spoken in some parts of Kenya. That country was a British colony at the time that Barack Obama Sr. lived there, so he would have been expected to speak excellent English if he wanted to advance, both in his education and his profession. By all accounts, he was a good student and totally fluent in English. But he undoubtedly did speak some tribal language, most likely Luo, when he was with his relatives.
The name "Barack" is derived from Arabic, and is also close to Hebrew (Baruch). It means "blessed." The president's last name has no particular meaning in any language-- it is a name common to members of his biological father's ancestral group in Kenya. It should be noted that the president inherited his father's name. President Obama is not from Kenya and does not speak Arabic.
He has said that he barely speaks any of it and can only recall a few words. Not well at all. Indonesia is a country where a young Barack Obama, his mom and his new step-dad moved when the future president was five years old. While young Barack did learn some of the language (which is called Indonesian, and is derived from the Malay language), he has said that he no longer remembers much of it, because he has not lived in Indonesia since he was ten years old.
Like most Americans, the president mainly speaks English. He would have studied a foreign language in college-- most likely French or Spanish. And he has said that while he learned some Indonesian during the five years he lived in that country as a boy, he no longer remembers much of it.
people in frankfurt normally speak german
He has said he has vague recollections of the Indonesian language (he lived in that country for four years as a child), and since he graduated from two universities (where a foreign language is always required), we may assume he has a passing knowledge of either French or Spanish.
I read somewhere that when he lived in Indonesia as a child, he was picked on a lot by his classmates because he was shy, didn't speak much of the language, and because he looked so much different than the other students.
The California state senate records indicate that a foreign student named Soetoro from Indonesia attended school in California.Yes, Obama attended school here as a foreign student. He held Indonesian citizenship at the time.
A person who understands a given language would normally be said to speak that language. A single word to describe this would be "Comprehension".
