I thought that Pakistan was created by the British from India in the province of what is now called "Uttar Pradesh" to give allow the Muslims to voluntarily segregate them from the Hindu majority.
The Indian Independence Act of 1947 which formalised this segregation was created in order to prevent racist attacks and violence against the Muslim minority.
