Japan wanted to expand their empire to gain lands with the raw materials and oil they desperately needed. When they invaded Manchuria they were explicit they did not want new peoples but they wanted their raw materials. So the expansion was not really about gaining new nations to rule but rather to plunder.
Because they felt like doing it
They had to expand or die!
They needed raw materials as their territory was too small for their large population.
They had a tradition of military conquest as an honorable life.
They needed farmland for their population as the exisiting farms were being cut up too small when the owner died and divided it between sons.
They needed jobs for farmer's sons so the army became a way of life.
their reasons were that they want to expand their military population and take over each islands were basically the u.s base to use people from each islands they take over and use them as military people i think.
Japan was conquered before by an oppressor and now sought an empire in the Pacific for many reasons after the age of industrialization. They wanted to solve economic debts through foreign expansion by means of appealing to other Asian colonies through being of the same race or by brute force. Additionally, they wanted Natural Resources among other things after recovering from the first World War. Japan also hated the western colonies in Southeast Asia and sought to destroy them.
Japan is very small compared to it's population. It is mostly mountainous. Japan has very few natural resources. If Japan gained new territories, it gained access to precious recources.
The Japanese wanted to be the masters of South East Asia. South East Asia had materials for Japan's army.
Japan saw themselves as liberators of Asians from European control. The only independent country that they invaded was China.
It was motivated by the amount of power European powers had so it wanted to get a lot of power. I think, I'm sorry if someone got this wrong on a test or quiz or homework or whatever. :|
Some of the motives for Japan to build its empire was that it was low on resources and it had to go and conquer other countries to get those resources.
