There never was a Protestant Revolution, it was more of a Reformation. It largely began in 1517 when a German priest, Martin Luther, nailed 95 complaints to a church door in Wittenberg. Luther was disgusted by the corruption in the Catholic church, such as the authority of the Pope, the sale of indulgences (certifiactes of forgiveness, etc) and the sale of fake relics.
