Socrates created and developed a teaching method based on questions and answers. One of the most important things he did was showing people that there were two sides to most issues. He also encouraged people to asks questions on things rather than just accept things as they are told to you. He discussed with people right and wrong, sanity and insanity, courage and cowardice and the best way to govern.
Socrates left behind a philosophical legacy in Greece centered on questioning, critical thinking, and the pursuit of knowledge. His method of questioning, known as the Socratic method, continues to influence philosophical inquiry and education today. His teachings, although not written down by him, were later recorded by his student Plato, ensuring his ideas were preserved and passed down through generations.
Socrates did not leave behind any written works. All that we know of him (his life, his philosophy) is based on the writings of his students and contemporaries: most notably, Plato's dialogues. However, scholars haven't always agreed that these dialogues reveal an accurate portrayal of Socrates; hence, the "Socratic Problem" emerges.
Socrates' student, Plato, wrote many books to spread his teachings.
Socrates did not leave behind any written works. Instead, his teachings and philosophy were recorded by his students, primarily Plato. So while Socrates himself did not write, his ideas and dialogues have been passed down through the writings of others.
Socrates did not leave behind a formal aesthetic theory. However, some scholars believe that his emphasis on inner virtue and the pursuit of wisdom in the soul could be applied to art and beauty, suggesting that the contemplation of beauty can lead to moral improvement and cultivation of the soul. This aligns with the idea that art should aim to elevate the soul and promote ethical values.
Socrates expressed regret over leaving behind debts that he could not fulfil, as he believed it would burden his friends and family. This showed his concern for the well-being of his loved ones even in his final moments.
