What light did God create in the beginning?

He created the world, not light. Answer The light in Genesis 1:3 was not the light from the sun, but light emanating from the very throne of God as God's light from his glory shone on the darkness of the world, as he initiated the events that followed (the creation or remaking of the earth). Light always was, as God always was. All matter interestingly is condensed light energy! In 1 John 1:5 we read that, "..God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all". What all that means, Ive no idea, but light is eternal, as God is. Apparently the Light from the glory of God is so powerful that were he to personally appear uncloaked in all his glory upon the earth, the earth and everything in it would be annihilated. Something about sin, introduced darkness both to the Universe, to the world, to our hearts, and to our souls, so much so that we literally cannot stand directly in His presence in our condition, lest we become consumed as by a ball of fire. This is part of the reason for his mainly indirect communication to man through prophets etc, inspired by the Holy Spirit of God, which cannot be seen. Its also why when He appeared to Israel during the Exodus of Moses day, that he appeared clothed by a cloud, to shield the people from His consuming light. So He never created light, it is part of Gods very nature and inseparable from God.

In the first biblical creation story (Genesis 1:1-2:4a), God created light on the first day. He created the sun, moon and stars, without which we now know there can be neither light nor even day, on the fourth day.
The early Church Father, Origen, found that he could not accept this account (On First Principles, 3.1.1): "Now what man of intelligence will believe that the first and the second and the third day, and the evening and the morning existed without the sun and moon and stars?"

The Genesis account uses two distinctive words in Hebrew when describing the creation of light. In the Genesis 1:1 verse, it tells us of God's 'divine creation' using the word 'bara' for created ( Keil & Delitzsch states in their Commentary on the Old Testament). So when God created the heavens and the earth, these included the sun, moon, planets and stars. Hence the reason for the separation of the world found in darkness to having light to create on the 1st day on the Earth.

A bit later in Genesis 1:14-16, the Hebrew word used here is 'asah' and generally means to make or reconstitute something that already exists. So God actually now puts these bodies in their best fixed orbits as far as the future world of man is to have and 'made' them divide the day fro the night and set them 'for signs and seasons, and for days and years.'

The Expositor's Bible Commentary explains: "In other words, unlike the syntax of verse 6, in verse, in verse 14, God's command assumes that the lighter were already in the expanse and that in response to His command they were given a purpose, 'to separated the day from the night' and 'to mark seasons and days and years."

Genesis 1:3-5 tells us that on the first day, God created the light of day, separating it from the darkness he called night. No one really knows what this light was, since we now realise that the light of day comes entirely from the sun, which Genesis tells us was created on day four. It appears that the ancients did not realise that the light of day comes entirely from the sun, or perhaps they did not want to let the facts spoil a good story.

Answer: The method used is not recorded. Given God's creativity, it could have been anything. Most likely, he created the stars.
