Is Louis riel a villain?

In Canada he is. Canada bought Ruperts Land and acted like there was no people living there and if any where they would be thrilled to be ruled by Canada. Riel made it impossible to suggest people were not already living in Ruperts Land, worst yet he forced Canada to kill and take land by force. Something they would like to forget.

Why was Louis riel famous?

cause he made Manitoba a province in Canada.--------------------Riel was from Manitoba, fought for the rights of the locals, died for the cause, has been vilified ever since by Canada, and lionized as a great martyr by those with the deep historical roots in Western Canada.Why_is_Louis_Riel_an_importent_person_in_ManitobaStanding up to Canada. His land and colony, The Red River Colony, was with many others purchased by Canada from the Hudson Bay Company. Canada acted like the land was empty of people, which is always best when colonising new lands.Riel was one of the leaders of the local government in today's Manitoba. Canada was forced to negotiate with the locals creating the province of Manitoba. Canada also used troops to do some of the negotiating so Riel and others fled to the States. But Canada had little intention of actually following through with the promises made when they created Manitoba and things got much worst for many locals, in particular the Indians and Metis. So Riel returned a few years later and helped in another rebellion. That one killed many more people and saw Riel arrested. He was hanged by Canada for treason.Riel is famous for fighting against Canada, dying for the cause, and creating the province of Manitoba.

Three questions you could ask Louis Riel?

1. Why did you go to the mental institution? 2. How many people did you kill? 3. What do you think about your vilification by Canada? 4. Should Western Canadians demand the promises made by Canada be fulfilled?

What made Louis riel important?

His failure and execution made it very clear to all Western Canadians that real resistance to their purchase by Canada meant death. Which helped keep further Western rebellions isolated to writing nasty newspaper articles and complaining about Canada at the local pub. Gee time moves on but nothing really changes, LOL.

When Louis Riel killed Scott?

NOTE: Louis Riel did not personally kill Thomas Scott. Scott was executed by firing squad.Thomas Scott was in jail because he was captured while leading an armed force with the intention of overthrowing Riel's government. He was killed because he was the most violent prisoner there and he made death threats to Louis Riel, he escaped and said he would return and kill Louis Riel so Riel killed him because he was afraid that if he didn't Thomas Scott would kill him. While Riel did not reach out and shoot Scott himself he did order it and the reason certainly includes fear. It also includes authority. Riel was a leader selected by some of those who lived in the area to be part of the government representing the citizens. Those who did not recognize that government's authority were threats to the government and people. One of the best ways to assert a government's authority is to use force, to kill people, a right governments had automatically in those days. That Riel had the backing of most of the people in Manitoba was proven when, after Manitoba was made a province, he was elected as an MP even though he was in exile.
