What makes a burning smell and loud noise in a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora?

My 2001 had this problem and it was having oil leaks that were hitting hot areas on the car and producing a faint burn smell. You should have your car checked for leaks. There need to be more of a description for the loud noise, on these cars it could be anything.
