You will find a sticker in the trunck with the factory code printed on it.
Several ways. Call a lock smith or Pop a Lock or AAA. or if you have keyless entry try pushing the code.
Contact the dealer from where the Montero was originally purchased (new from showroom). Give them the Chasis number and they will provide you with the stereo lock code from their records. In-case the code is same for all 1997 Montero sports models then use the number 9613. This is the audio code of my Montero sport 1997 . Maybe it works in yours too! Good luck.
Should have access after removing inner door panel
All radio's have a lock code now to prevent them from being stolen. It you didn't buy the truck then find the org buyer and get the lock code from him or find the owners manual and look for the radio lock code in it.try this link, worked for me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AVQZk8-qs4
If you are the original purchaser of the truck, you can go to the dealer to get the codes, which should still be on file. If you are not the original owner, you may still try at the dealer but more likely will need a locksmith to get the lock code.
Ignition Lock? or Door Lock?
I just bought a 1997 accord with this problem. It turned out to be a small rubber piece inside the lock actuator. It stops the solenoid at the end of the gear which locks the door.
Bernard Lock died in 1997.
