The US Civil War is important for a good number of reasons. It ranks as the largest failure in US history. The number of lives lost in the war was more than any war before or since. It was important because as a result of the war, the 13th amendment to the US Constitution was passed abolishing slavery. It ended forever the idea that states could secede from the US. It also became the driving force for the US to upgrade its military power and make an impression on other world powers.
