Normally this is caused by a broken synchronizer.
I have a 94 buick century the speedometer doesn't work n it has a hard time shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear it makes a funky noise. would like to find out what I can do Sounds to me the speed sensor is at fault.
It makes easy to reach to first gear blindly pushing the gear downwards when slowing down and stopping. Hence can further pick up from first gear.Bikes can start in any gear hence no need for bike to be in neutral gear.
replace starter
overdrive.
they need there gear supplies to live and not fall down the mountains
Third gear could have a broken tooth, chipped tooth or bent tooth on the gear and only makes a noise when it has drive pressure applied to it, so either way when pressure is applied it makes a noise.
Is this an automatic transmission?
Check side of transmission
gear ruber mount is broken makes the gear go down and up making vibration or souns like some is lose
If the transmission won't shift out of first gear on a 1992 Buick Roadmaster, it could indicate the transmission gears are seized. It can also indicate a low fluid level.
the smaller gear makes the bigger gear a unicorn
