SR-71 holds the record for the fastest manned jet aircraft. The officail maximum airspeed achieved by the plane is near Mach3.5. Unfortunately it is only a spy plane or surveillance aircraft.
For an airplane which takes off and lands on its own, the SR-71 "Blackbird" holds the official Air Speed Record for a manned airbreathing jet aircraft with a speed of 3,529.56 km/h (2,188 mph). The rocket-powered X-15 was the fastest powered, manned aircraft, reaching a top speed of 7,274 km/h (4,510 mph) on October 3, 1967. However, that was carried aloft by another palne and launched at high altitude. For sapcecraft, the Space Shuttle travels at about 18,000 miles per hour.

As of 2011, the X-15 still holds the official world record for the fastest aircraft at 4,519 mph (7,273 km/h) held since 1967
There probably are no human-constructed aircraft that can fly within the atmosphere at Mach 23. The official record-holder of the fasted manned aircraft speed of Mach 6.72 (4,520 mph or 7,274 km/h) is the rocket-powered X15. An amazing fact is that the record has stood since 1963.
It is supposedly the SR-71 blackbird built by Lockheed Martin and was capable of speeds of mach 3.5 and over. Although its true top speed is classified, from the speeds we do know of, it is the fastest aircraft... that was manned. Unmanned aircraft are a different story.
It depends on what aircraft it is. For instance : The X-15 is the fastest manned aircraft in the world, traveling at mach 6.72The SR-71 Blackbird is the fastest airplane in the world, traveling at 3.2.Average speed of a jet is 850-900km/hr
2200 miles per hourAnswer:According to the Guinness World Records, NASA's X-43A scramjet set a new world speed record for a manned jet-powered aircraft of Mach 9.6 (7,000 mph).
The official max speed of the F15 is Mach 2.5, although some publications list Mach 2.8. This is without external stores or armament.
The fastest speed reached by a manned aircraft was during NASA's X-15 program, with a maximum speed of around 7,273 km/h (4,520 mph). This record was set in 1967 by William J. "Pete" Knight.

Felix Baumgartner holds the record for the fastest flight of a human being without an aircraft. In a free fall dive from about 128,000 feet in 2012, he reached a speed of 833.9 miles per hour. That is almost 100 miles per hour faster than the speed of sound.
