Like most nations, Iran does not have fixed election dates. The 1993, 2001, 2005 and 2009 presidential elections all took place in June, though previous elections have taken place in January, May, July, August and October. The 2013 election will be in June.
Legislative elections have traditionally been even more flexible. Traditionally, the first round of voting has occurred in April, with a second round following in May. However, the first round has occurred in March previously, and in 2000 and 2004 it took place in late February. In 1996, the first round took place in March and was followed by a second round in April, and in 1979, constitutional convention elections occurred in a single round in August.
Local elections have never taken place in the same month to date. The 2003 and 2006 round of local elections took place in February and December, respectively, whilst the 2013 local elections will be in June.
