The 2001 Camaro SS came with a 345ci. all aluminum 5.7L RPO code LS-1 V8. SS's and Z28's from 1998-2002 came with this engine. rated @ 305-320 hp. Z28-SS. but these motors were under rated by GM so it did not hurt corvette sales (which have same engine) and of course insurance companies not to put rates higher than they already were. Some 2001 and 2002 cars were fitted with an LS-6 intake manifold from the Corvette Z06 and these luckey owners got a camaro that made 345-350hp. and a car that hauled butt. These made much more power than a standard LS-1. I believe these motors can be identified by casting #'s on either the block or heads, I not sure at the monent, but if your in the market for an 01' or 02' I would make sure to get one w/ the LS-6 intake!!! These motors are an outstanding feat of engineering by GM and just simply changing the cam and heads these motors can make over 450 hp. without breaking a sweat. There is huge aftermarket support for these engines to help you achieve the results you desire. Hope this helps you,
