John Dillinger saw Manhattan Melodrama starring Clark Gable, Myrna Loy, and William Powell on the night he was shot to death.
Depp played criminal John Dillinger in the 2009 movie Public Enemies.
Think you might mean John Dillinger and not James Dillinger. He was not killed while watching a movie it was outside the movie theatre that he was shot. Do not know the movie but it was his girlfriend who gave him away to the police. Does it really matter that much what he was watching?

One of the women that Dillinger was friends with tipped off Melvin Purvis that he would be at a movie theater on a certain night in exchange for his help in stopping her deportation, as she was from Romania. She and John went to see the movie "Manhattan Melodrama" on July 22, 1934.She wore a red dress that signaled the Feds waiting outside the theater that it was him. Three FBI agents then approached Dillinger and he was shot outside of the Biograph theater in Chicago, Illinois.
Filming was completed before her death.
Actually I thought Dillinger's death scene was very well thought-out and portrayed. Finally Purvis and his men have found Dillinger because a woman who allows him to stay with her, turned him in, in order to keep her status as an American citizen. They are at a ganster movie starring a man who looks ironically similar to dillinger himself, and he loses the one he loves similar to what happened to Dillinger. The movie ends and the three of them walk out of the theatre. Music swells as you the camera follows Dillinger along the sidewalk. A man behind him wears an angry face and holds a gun as if if he were to shoot, but he doesnt. Finally Dillinger turns to see the men after him. He reaches into his pocket to grab his gun, but is unable to reach it in time. He pushes the woman and her daughter after the way, and at that moment in time a shot is fired. Right into the back of Dillingers head, it enters the back with blood splatter, and the camera comes to the front of him where the bulet exits the front of him. In my opinion this was a really cool death scene. He is shot a few more times in the chest. The music stops. Silence other than the bullet shells hitting the ground. He falls to the ground and bloods pours from the bullet wound in his head. Purvis begins walking away, chaos ensuses, with a slight grin on his face. However that's not the end you have to see the movie to understand the very ending. Sorry this was so long but at least it was descriptive. Hope this helps!
The movie Death Before Dishonor was directed by Terry Leonard and the movie was given merely a three point five on IMBD rating website, and is most often called "predictable" by its viewers.
If this was a silent movie JD would be the only actor in the room. He not only shines as Dillinger he is Dillinger. Depp has turned out many Oscar worthy performances and just keeps getting better. I would be very surprised if he is not nominated and goes on to win for his potrayal as Dillinger.

There are many structures that are important in finding a seat in the theater after the movie has begun. The first is scope out what seats are available and then figure out the easiest way to get to them.
Public Enemies is due for release in 2009. Depp is playing John Dillinger.
Yep, it was the last film he oversaw before his death in 1966.
