The cell membrane is like the cell wall in a plant cell: it protects the cell. The difference is that it identifies what does not belong there, like a hopper at a club. The thing is, like people trying to get in a club, some things have false ID's which make it difficult for the "hopper" or cell membrane to sense any differences. That is why we can get sick or get diseases. Hope this is helpful :~D

What is the structure of a cell membrane in plant cells?

The cell membrane is composed of phospholipid bi-layer and proteins. The phospholipids are both hydrophillic and hydrophobic and makes the cell membrane be selectively permeable, that is allows only curtain molecules to pass through the membrane. The proteins function is to determine wchich molecules must go in and wchich shouldn't go inside the cell.

What must a substance pass through to enter or leave a cell?

If substances did not pass through cell membranes, then all single-celled and multicellular organisms would die.

In order to reach the cytoplasm this rna must pass through?

nuclear membrane

Why the inner cell membrane divide cells?

The cell membrane works as a barrier to both contain the organelles within the cytoplasm and to regulate the flow of "materials" in and out of the cell. The membrane contains many proteins responsible for allowing hormones and minerals such as Calcium to enter the cell in order for it to perform its function. The organelles must be contained to a region because they are dependant and require each other to carry out their functions as well.

Where do proteins travel to get modified packaged and secreted?

Many proteins must be chemically folded into an active tertiary structure. The protein must be transported to where it will function. Sometimes the protein must move out of the cell, as in the case of hormones such as insulin. In such case, a small membrane vesicle contains the protein fuses with the cell membrane. The protein is than released outside and the proteins that are destined to become a part of membrane are made on ribosomes that are bound to the endoplasmic reticulum.

Controls what goes in and out of the cell?

It is the cell membrane. As the name indicates it is the membrane around the cell which has exactly the function described, controlling what is going in and out of the cell, through different kinds of channeling technics

What is the functioning of the cell membrane of all organisms?

The main function is to keep the organism and its environment separate. After separating the organism and its environment, the membrane must also provide means to bring into the cell things it needs from the environment and take out of the cell things that must be disposed of.

What is the cell part where oxygen can pass?

All particles trying to get into the cell must get through the cell membrane. The cell membrane is selectively permeable, which means that it can select what goes in and what goes out. The structure of a cell membrane is called a lipid bilayer, which is two layers of phospholipids.

What does a cell wall surround?

Yes, animal cells are surrounded by a cell membrane. anything going in or out of the cell must go through the cell membrane.
