Fur trades were mutually beneficial for both groups of people.

Fur was in high demand in Europe, and so Europeans had Native people get animal furs for them to send back to Europe and make lots of money from.

Native people in return were given handy things that they had not had before, such as guns, pots and pans, etc. (They were also given things that weren't so great, like smallpox infected blankets. Not good.)

Hope that helps!

The largest is the value such trade gave to each group. In the past the First Nation or Aboriginal people had exterminated Europeans settling in Canada. No doubt in large part because they could and because they did not see the Europeans of have value to them.

In other areas of the New World Europeans exterminated First Nations people because they did not see value in them.

The fur trade made the Europeans valuable to the First Nations people because they could get items they wanted from the Europeans. Items of such advanced technology the Aboriginals were unable to copy them.

The fur trade made the Aboriginals valuable to the Europeans because they were supplying valuable furs from deep inland and bringing them to the coast for easy shipping back to Europe. This was the business model for the HBC.

Early fur trading practices helped ensure a level of peace and respect that would be lost once Europeans began trapping for furs themselves directly competing with the First Nations for access to the resources.
